Abstract :
The main contribution of this paper consists of presenting the advantages of using QoS parameters (measured above the MAC Sub-Layer), when taking routing decisions. The proposed entity called “QoS-Aware Virtual Router” uses cross-layering techniques to extract lower layers performance indicators (i.e. available transfer rate and one way delay) and offering them to higher layer protocols. The QoS information measured in real-time is used to calculate a composite metric that is characterizing globally a path from a source to a destination. In this paper we are making a detailed presentation of the proposed mechanism and compare its performances with a best effort solution.
