Abstract
To support the diagnostic process or educational purposes, telepathology systems had to provide tools to manage the digitalized data like images and reports. Numerous systems have the disadvantage to restrict there retrieval capabilities i.e. to automatically picture analysis, ignoring the knowledge about the diagnostic results contained in the corresponding report. To overcome these deficits we developed a semantic Web based retrieval system, using domain ontologies. In this paper, we compare two basic approaches for building ontologies for the domain of lung pathology
