Abstract
A novel chaotic digital communication scheme is presented. The noise-like signals generated by chaotic systems with different parameters are used to represent the binary digital signals on the transmitter side in secure digital communication systems. On the receiver side, the digital message is recovered by employing an Extended Kalman Filter-based parameter estimator. This scheme provides a methodology of chaotic spread spectrum communication. One major advantage of the proposed chaotic communication scheme is that the receiver does not need the knowledge of the initial condition of the chaotic system state used in modulation and the signals transmitted through the channel is broadband and noise-like. Single and double bit implementations of this scheme are discussed. The single-bit scheme is compared to an earlier proposed one. The Bit Error Rate performances under different ambient noise levels are evaluated to demonstrate the feasibility of this scheme.
