  • Abstract
A compositional region was revealed in the (Pb1-xBax)1-3zBiz(Zr1-y Tiy)O3 (PBZT) ceramic system where large electrostrictive strains and small hysteresis exist simultaneously. The electrostrictive coefficients, m11 (longitudinal) and m12 (lateral), are as high as 8.9 and 3.85×10-16 m2/V2, respectively, and hysteresis is small enough to be negligible, depending on the composition involved. It was found that a small amount of Bi2O3 additive significantly modified the electrostrictive and dielectric properties of the pure PBZT ceramic system and shifted both the FR-FT and FR-PC boundaries. Hot-pressed samples showed higher saturated strains and smaller hysteresis than those fabricated by conventional sintering
