Abstract
A novel excitation method for a piezoelectric actuator is described whereby its asymmetric displacement is achieved as a function of time elapsed without residual vibration. The method uses a rectangular voltage pulse and is being used to develop a piezoelectric actuator with a double-trip operation. The displacement of such an actuator driven by a rectangular pulse is analyzed, and experimental results from its application to specific actuators are reported
