Summary form only given.To study nonlinear optical effects in combination with giant Faraday rotation angles, a semimagnetic semiconductor with its band-edge around 1.55 /spl mu/m is required. We present results obtained in semi-magnetic HgMnTe grown by vertical Bridgeman crystallization and subsequent solid-state recrystallization producing high-quality samples to attain band-edge tuning even below 1.55 /spl mu/m.
