Abstract :
The paper deals with the optimal compensation of distribution networks, approached and solved as a nonlinear optimisation problem. The first part presented the problem statement and the calculation of the power flow for a radial distribution network under certain operating conditions. The second part formulates and solves the optimisation problem - a constrained nonlinear programming one. The conjugated gradient method (the Fletcher-Reeves algorithm) is used, together with the penalty function method and with the Lagrange multipliers method. The presented example emphasises the method´s mechanism and its advantages
