  • Abstract
    Conventional harmonic-elimination methods are compared with a recently proposed distortion minimization technique for AC-DC and DC-AC single-phase converters. The distortion-minimization technique eliminates certain chosen harmonics while minimizing harmonic distortion in rectifier input current or inverter output voltage. Choosing fewer harmonics to be eliminated results in lower harmonic distortion; the lowest possible distortion results from allowing all harmonics to have nonzero values. A striking characteristic of the optimal solutions for the AC-DC power converter is the absence of quarter-wave symmetry
