Abstract :
The practitioner inquiry learning object (PILO) is a multimedia Web-based learning resource designed for teachers learning the skills of conducting classroom inquiry. Classroom events provide data in the form of video, audio, transcripts and still image. Experienced researchers have provided model analyses of this data and downloadable instruments for teachers to use. The PILO is designed to facilitate both independent exploration using its searchable database and structured learning through its hyperlinked pathways. This paper describes the PILO and discusses some design and development issues, specifically questions of authenticity, the effects of data collection on classroom events and the challenge of working in multidisciplinary design teams.
