Abstract :
A lot of applications need that an animated 3D object is compressed for transmission over the net while preserving its topology. In this paper we present a compression algorithm for 3D animation sequences with fixed connectivity based on 2D wavelet transform. The compression process is controlled by vertex trajectory matrix to wavelet transform only groups of trajectories with maximum similarity of vertex behavior. As a result we obtain a compressed 3D animation sequence with competitive ratio of compression rate/quality which is suitable in the field of interactive 3D computer graphics. We are providing results on some benchmark animation sequences that are compared with another approaches.
