Abstract
A study of unipolar converters suitable for feeding switched reluctance motors is presented. Voltage-source and current-source configurations are considered, and the commutation process is analyzed for each scheme. A comparative study of two operation schemes is given. Regardless the converter configuration, the same trade-off between commutation time and voltage stress imposed on the power switches remains. A current-controlled converter configuration representing a compromise between the two feeding schemes is proposed and studied in detail. Experimental results are presented to validate the theoretical analysis.<>
