  • Abstract
A new concept of microgrid is proposed in this paper, which is based on power systems with two voltages in quadrature. The two-phase microgrid system described in this paper has the following advantages: 1) constant power at balanced condition; 2) two voltages available by using a three-wire system; 3) optimized voltage utilization compared to a three-phase system; and 4) a direct connection of both symmetrical two-phase and single-phase machines. This paper describes the power analysis as well as an advanced converter interfacing the two-phase microgrid and a conventional single-phase utility grid. Experimental results validate the theoretical expectations.
