Abstract :
Java/ASP-based web distance learning systems increase the capacity of traditional learning environment wherein knowledge can be extended, expanded, diffused, and shared; thereby distinct research, teaching and practical case experiences can be retained for sufficing the people´s demands for knowledge acquisition. Consequently, taking advantage of web-based teaching materials to increase the effectiveness of the course teaching and learning (T&L) has been the one of the course development strategies performed at Department of Industrial Engineering (IE), Yuan-Ze University (YZU) in Taiwan. Statistical Process Control (SPC) course, which discusses how to apply statistic analysis techniques to control and manage various engineering, service or R&D processes, was selected to be developed as the web-based courseware performed in an interactive Java/ASP environment. This dynamic web-based SPC T&L environment complements its own in-classroom one. The Java/ASP infrastructure implementing the web-based SPC course material is described in this paper, and the course´s T&L process is demonstrated. This interactive SPC courseware has been proven that it can increase the students´ leaning interest and outcome efficiency.
