Abstract
Nowadays distributed and multi-organization teams joined for the duration of the project accomplish many cooperative design and engineering projects. Grid technologies facilitate dynamic and distributed work environments for such project-based work scenarios because grid technologies provide the ability to dynamically create and manage service instances, and perform resource management in multi-organization environments. We propose the virtual studio lab for project based work scenarios. A virtual studio aggregates required tools provided by a grid on demand for the duration of a project facilitating creation and control of a cooperative work environment. A virtual studio lab manager is responsible for requesting resource allocation, creation of grid service instances and control of service instances composing an on demand virtual studios and laboratories. We have implemented a prototype and are experimenting on two scenarios: a film production project and an Internet application development project.
