Abstract :
For most of us a strategy is a future plan, consciously made and aimed at achieving objectives which themselves have been rationally thought out. This paper takes a more evolutionary view of strategy in which managers make plans but recognise that their strategy may be as much about their past as their future. By looking at an organisation´s past strategies the question “accident or design?” comes into focus alongside a different and useful perspective of strategy development as a process executed over time
