Abstract :
The electron transport algorithm PRESTA, which was developed to improve electron transport in the low-energy region, was applied to simulations of an electromagnetic sampling calorimeter using a thin silicon detector. The EGS4/PRESTA results were compared with experimental results and the default EGS4 and EGS4/ESTEPE results. The ESTEPE option has hitherto been used for this type of simulation to obtain correct results. EGSA/PRESTA can give almost the same results as those calculated with EGS4/ESTEPE by using selected ESTEPE values without considering materials used with a speed several times faster than EGS4/ESTEPE. EGSA/PRESTA was applied to compensation studies by the SICAPO collaboration to understand the reason for reductions of visible energy for electrons with different methods
