Abstract :
Fish farming is a business developed from Aquaculture, the art of culturing aquatic organisms. Fish farming being a business realm requires to be done in a structured way and ought to operate as a profit making unit with competitive yield and quality through construction of modern and controlled ponds using engineering technology. In the countries like India, its full potential is yet to be exploited In this view, the paper describes an Electronic System for pond management in fresh water prawn/fish cultivation. The system continuously measures and control several hydro biological parameters responsible for growth of fishes e.g. DO, pH, BOD, Temperature, Feed etc. The system consists of a centralized monitoring & display of various parameters and possesses intelligence through Predictive Decision Support System (PDSS) for predicting the stress factor on-line. In case of several ponds located at different locations, the system provides centralized control and display facility through networking of ponds. The system was conceived after intensive discussions with Indian aquaculture farmers and scientists engaged in the fresh water aquaculture research.
