Abstract :
The development of an oscillation generator for a geological research project is presented. The purpose is exploring the structure of the lithosphere by shearing waves. Some technical demands are similar to the requirements made on industrial servo drives: true running without cogging torques, run-up without rotor position sensor, and torque detecting from the cable terminals. Supplying the permanent magnet synchronous machine and measuring the data through a thin and long cable are also discussed. Results from laboratory tests on a 400 Hz aircraft generator controlled by an M68000 microprocessor and by digital simulation are reported.<>
