  • Abstract
In electrical machines, the current heat losses increase with rising motor temperature, while the iron core losses decrease. These effects will be described in this paper both theoretically and experimentally for synchronous and induction machines. The result is the existence of an energy optimal motor temperature. The losses in a non-optimal temperature condition can be significantly higher than in an optimal thermal condition. An energy optimal temperature control could be used to reduce losses in embedded powertrain systems for Battery Electric Vehicles.
