Abstract
An efficient multistage structure is presented for narrowband finite-impulse response (FIR) filters. The structure consists of cascading FIR stages. Each stage operates at the same input sampling rate while its filter´s sampling rate is the power of the input rate. Such an arrangement can greatly reduce the number of multipliers without increasing the complexity of the filter. The optimum number of stages can be easily determined. The quantization error is also analyzed. Several examples are given
