Abstract :
A novel compact circularly polarized single-feed microstrip antenna with magnetic substrate is proposed. The antenna is analyzed by using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and the effects of parameters of its center-slot and side-slots on the input impedance and return loss are presented for the guidance of design. The experimental results show that the proposed antenna has a size reduction of more than 40% as compared with the conventional design and that its 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 3.5% while the 2:1 VSWR bandwidth reaches 12.6%. Therefore the usage of magnetic substrate with the new design not only reduces the size of antenna, but also improves the impedance bandwidth significantly.
