Abstract
In this paper we describe some numerical simulations for grating couplers and sensing waveguides, both components of a biosensor design (Lukosz, 1995). We investigate the feasibility of making this type of chips using polymers, like PMMA, and silicon nitride for the guiding material. The use of polymers permits us to make gratings with "embossing" techniques, which result in low cost devices. The study is focused on the optimization of the layers thickness to get the more sensitivity devices.
