Abstract :
A description is given of a logic network synthesis system, SYLON, that is being developed by improving and combining the authors´ previous synthesizers, the transduction method, and the algorithm DIMN. Instead of starting with AND and OR gates as in other synthesizers, SYLON uses basic logic gates in integrated circuitry (such as NOR, NAND, and negative gates) from the very beginning of the design process. SYLON-XTRANS, a modification of the transduction method, can generate simpler networks than other synthesizers and also networks for a 4-b ALU with quality comparable to manual design. SYLON-DREAM, a modification of DIMN with reduction procedures, can directly generate compact MOS networks with gates of specified complexities. SYLON-REDUCE can simplify any given MOS network while keeping the specified complexity of each gate
