Abstract
Summary form only given. The dispersion of surface waves (SWs) propagating in a homogeneous cold collisionless plasma bounded by a chamber of arbitrary cross-section is studied using perturbation theory. Based on azimuthal SW (ASW) theory, the SW field distribution is determined. The expression for SW frequency shift caused by noncircularity of the chamber cross-section is obtained. SWs in an arbitrary cross-section waveguide propagate in the same frequency range as ASW. In consequence of the diffraction these SWs propagate as a wave packet. SWs in a waveguide with a square cross-section have been investigated as an example.
