Abstract :
A MOS-controlled thyristor is presented for use as a high-speed power semiconductor with the potential for high voltage and current ratings. Distinctive features of the device are discussed relative to inverter topology, gate drive requirements, and fault protection. Design details for a 7.5 kW, 20 kHz inverter are discussed, including a modified pulse-width modulation (PWM) switching algorithm conductive to software implementation. The algorithm has fewer computational and storage requirements than do previous PWM methods. Implementation of the algorithm is accomplished by a digital signal processor using C language.<>
