Abstract :
A multilayer slab waveguide, based on porous silicon technology, is theoretically studied. The waveguide consists of a core with refractive index 2.5 and two layers with refractive index 1.5 that are the cladding. We develop the mathematical expressions for the analysis of this waveguide structure and for the calculation of the dispersion relation. We propose this waveguide for 1.55 μm applications and we discuss the influence of the core thickness on the number of TE modes of the waveguide. Finally, the effect of the variation of the refractive indices on the cutoff wavelengths of the modes is analyzed.
