This paper initiates a novel simple mathematical model for exploring the mysterious dynamical mechanism of synchronized clapping. Based on this model, we set up an experimental platform of emergent computation for simulating many hands clapping. We find that there exists a critical region from the disorder applause to the emerging rhythmic clapping. Moreover, the clapping intervals obviously slacken in this critical region. This result generalizes the well known conclusion “the clapping period suddenly doubled at the start of the synchronized phase”. Furthermore, we attain an effective synchronous criterion for the emerging rhythmic clapping. Our model and approach shed some new insights on the collective behaviours of complex systems in nature and human societies.
