Abstract
A novel active frequency selective surface (FSS) based on complementary structures is proposed in this paper. The structure is made up of square loop apertures and crossed dipoles on either side of a thin substrate. Several PIN diodes are loaded between crossed dipoles to provide different transmission states. The crossed dipoles are also used as feeding lines in the design to reduce the influence of additional feeder system on transmission characteristics. Simulated and measured results of the transmission coefficients are provided to validate the new design.
