Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Experimental work on the development of the MIT 3.3-GHz relativistic klystron amplifier is reported. An annular electron beam of /spl sim/300 kV, 5 kA, 150 ns is focused by a 22.5-kG confinement field, furnished by a superconducting magnet. A 1-MW tunable magnetron supplies power to the first cavity in the range of 3.1 to 3.5 GHz. The novel, compact first cavity has embedded in it the electron gun. Studies of the RF current modulation downstream from the input cavity have been performed.
