Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. A J-band (5.85-8.2 GHz) relativistic klystron amplifier (RKA) of the NRL genealogy is under development at Hughes Missile Systems Company. The nominal design parameters for this RKA are: V/sub o/ /spl ap/ 600 kV; I/sub o/ /spl ap/ 2-4 kA; B/sub z/ /spl ap/ 1.5 T; /spl tausub beam/ /spl ap/ 300-1000 ns; v/sub in/ /spl ap/ 6.6 GHz; and p/sub n/ /spl les/ 500 kW. Theoretical modelling and design considerations for this RKA´s input and idler cavities, their separation, and the expected post-idler-cavity electron beam modulation have been examined. Cold-test data have been used to corroborate the design.
