Abstract :
Achieving EMC between the train and the infrastructure has been one of the key challenges facing those responsible for delivering modern power electronic trains to railways around the world. This paper gives a brief overview of the major issues. Sources of requirements are discussed, including coverage by standards. The key risks and methods of managing them are presented. The pressures of rolling stock delivery against tight timescales are discussed. Finally, future trends are noted. The authors make the case that key to success is a thorough understanding of the infrastructure, ideally acquired before train design starts.
