Abstract :
This paper proposes a fast intermode decision algorithm in which the variance of the sum of absolute difference (SAD) between the 4times4 small blocks is employed to describe the stationary and homogeneous characteristics of macroblocks. In addition, an early SKIP mode decision is considered in the proposed algorithm. The experimental result indicates that the proposed algorithm can achieve a reduction of 40.4% computation time on average while maintaining a high coding efficiency
