Abstract :
Spatial scalability is one of the key feature in scalable video coding which can provide efficient video representation with different spatial resolutions. This paper proposes an efficient scalable intra coding scheme with spatial scalability based on H.264 standard. Intra prediction in spatial domain has greatly contributed to the coding efficiency improvement in H.264, so the base layer in our scheme is compatible with that standard. In order to further improve efficiency of the enhancement layer intra coding, a new inter layer intra prediction method that uses both information from the base layer and the enhancement layer is also proposed in this paper. Experiments show that the average PSNR-Y gain of the proposed scheme is about 0.12 dB for sequence Bus and 0.13 dB for sequence Football, with no additional cost on computation complexity
