Abstract :
Knowledge based decision support systems (KBDSSs) have been proposed as tools for aiding complex decision making, such as production scheduling, financial planning and inventory control. To construct KBDSSs efficiently, existing investments in software systems in the organisation need to be re-engineered, so that KBDSSs can use the data and knowledge which exists in those software systems. We propose a methodology for designing KBDSSs from re-engineered software systems. The key innovative features of the methodology are: techniques for gathering the requirements of KBDSSs; a uniform approach for re-engineering and integrating heterogeneous software systems; and conceptual models for defining the heterogeneous configuration of KBDSSs
