Abstract
Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing communication (OFDM) has become a promising technique for high-speed wireless data transmission. However, the performance of OFDM systems may suffer from the absence of diversity in frequency selective channels. To exploit diversity, several solutions can be employed, for example, by using forward error correction (FEC) or by introducing frequency domain spread spectrum techniques. In this paper, we proposed a coded frequency hopped (FH) OFDM system that exploits frequency diversity by incorporating FEC and frequency hopping into OFDM systems. The bit-error rate (BER) performance of a Reed Solomon coded FH-OFDM is compared with that of uncoded OFDM in a frequency selective fading channel, demonstrating the clear advantage of coded FH-OFDM system
