Abstract :
Wireless power transmission is defined as a process of transferring energy from a energy source to an electrical load via wireless connection. The method is suitable in conditions where energy transfer is required, but wiring connections are hazardous, inconvenient, or impossible. RF technique can be considered as among the most feasible wireless approach. As the most important element in any RF system, antenna has the ability to function as a transceiver. Hence, a properly designed antenna is needed to ensure efficiency of energy transfer. This paper investigates the performance of helical antenna design for wireless power transmission. The antenna was initially simulated using CST software. A prototype was then fabricated and tested for conformity. The performance metrics include voltage standing wave ratio, return loss and radiation pattern. Results from both simulation and prototype measurement are indicative that helical antenna has a prospective application in wireless power transmission.
