Abstract
Summary form only given. An analytical approach to the planar geometry solution for the interaction of short laser pulses with plasmas has been obtained. It is assumed that the hydrodynamics time scale is large compared to the time scale of the interaction, ions can be considered at rest; the diffusion approximation can be used for the angular dependence of the distribution function; and f/sub o/ can be replaced by a Maxwellian in calculating integral averages. From the distribution function, energy deposition and transfer and electron temperature and density have been calculated.
