  • Abstract
In directed diffusion (DD) routing protocol, the establishment of routing depends on the plane flooding of interest, which costs too much time and energy and could not be applied to large-scale network. In order to solve these problems, directed diffusion based on clustering and inquiry (DDBCI) is proposed in this paper. DDBCI clusters all nodes into clusters, and each cluster head keeps a member information table to record the information of the nodes in the cluster. When a cluster head node receives the interest message, it can find out whether the target area of the interest message is in the cluster via inquiring its member information table, and then decides whether or not to forward the interest message into the cluster. This paper presents DDBCI and its implementation algorithm in detail. Furthermore, the simulation results of this routing protocol shows that DDBCI protocol reduces network energy consumption, effectively prolongs the survival time of the wireless sensor network, and it can still maintain good performance as the network scale increases.
