Abstract
Information theory deals with redundant messages which are longer than necessary. The reliability theory claims that identical devices, working in parallel, make up a redundant machine. A redundant robot accomplishes sophisticated gestures. These discordant views exhibit irreconcilable properties and obstacle the design and implementation of a system with various redundant resources. The present paper puts forward a mathematical view that tries to reunify the various approaches to redundancy into one simple calculus. It proves that different properties of redundant structures derive from a unique statement
