Abstract :
Multiwavelength optical networks using wavelength routing have been recognized to be very attractive for the future B-ISDN and can potentially be used for the next-generation Internet to meet the demands for quality of service and bandwidth configurability. Wavelength conversion provides flexibility and reduces the blocking probability in the circuit-switched networks. As a set of precious resources, wavelengths are used as carriers of information and have to be assigned properly to prevent two same wavelengths in the same fiber link. We show a dense WDM network consisting of edge switches and backbone switches.
