Abstract :
A prototype optical switch unit with multi-core fibers (MCFs) was fabricated. Using an MCF link, the prototype successfully demonstrated automatic switching of optical routes when line failure occurred. Its recovery time was 25 ms, which is less than the time specified in the ITU-T standard (50 ms).
