Abstract
The navigational risk detection and assessment system (NARIDAS) is a novel approach for technological assistance on the ship´s bridge, providing a task-oriented integration of nautical information. Navigational risks are assessed online on eight dimensions, calculated from about 100 input variables of the navigation process. The paper presents an evaluation study of a NARIDAS prototype, that was conducted with nine nautical experts. Results show that the navigational risk values calculated by the system are consistent with the experts´ judgements. It is concluded that NARIDAS is a promising approach to a new quality of technological assistance on the ship´s bridge
