Abstract :
A new method of the localization and segmentation of the palmprint images based on the maximum effective circle (MEC) is presented in this paper. By this method the center-point of the different images for the same palm can be located by the maximal inscribed circle (MIC) searching procedure and the procedure of finding the anchor point. The location of the center-point of different images for the same palm can be relatively steady. The effective sub images can be acquired consequently. The validity of the shape and size of the sub image is discussed through the experiment. The new method has a good invariability toward rotation, translation and scaling, which provides a cornerstone of feature extraction and palmprint identification
