  • Abstract
A 2.4 kJ electromagnetic forming machine was developed using a single 30 kA solid state SCR in order to shear and deform thin Al sheet metal. A maximum current of 26kA was achieved at 2kV, limited by the current change rate of the SCR. The problems associated to forming and shearing thin sheet metal were addressed through a number of experiments and Matlab®/Simulink simulations to determine how they can be minimized.
