Development of an integrated knowledge management and simple process monitoring system

This paper presents a case study on the development of a prototype process monitoring system for a Malaysian manufacturing company. The intranet based system was developed based on data acquired during an undergraduate internship program at the company. Further, this paper describes how knowledge mapping of an organization´s knowledge assets via the intranet can be used to improve production efficiency and overall productivity in the organization´s manufacturing operations. The prototype integrated knowledge management and process monitoring system showed that the intranet of an organization can be used as a tool to disseminate process information and knowledge to enable better decision making during a manufacturing process. Finally, a proposal for future development is briefly described.
