Abstract
In this letter, we propose a new energy-efficient metric for relay node selection in multi-hop random wireless sensor networks (WSN) where the sensor nodes are distributed randomly and the node circuit energy consumption is also taken into consideration. During the routing, the relay node is selected in a forwarding area, which is defined by two parameters: a forwarding area radius and forwarding area angle. Under the guide of the new metric, we maximize the effective transmitting distance per unit energy consumption by selecting the appropriate forwarding area radius and angle. In this way, we provide a new point of view to achieve energy-effective relay node selection.
