Abstract
The potential of generating multibeam patterns using coupled oscillator arrays is demonstrated. The complex excitation values in order to synthesize a desired multibeam pattern are first determined using convex optimization. In a second step, the oscillator frequency tuning values that give the necessary excitation phases are obtained with harmonic balance simulations. The oscillator amplitudes are free to evolve according to the system dynamics. Once the steady state is determined, the final amplitude excitations are set using attenuators at the oscillator outputs. The stability of the solution is assured by proper design of the oscillator coupling networks and it is verified using envelope transient analysis. The possibility of scanning the dual beam pattern by detuning the free-running frequencies of the edge oscillator elements is also investigated.
