Abstract
The author introduces segmented melting, the separation of batch from cullet. An overview of the problems and their recommended solutions are presented, with a potential container glass application given as an example. It is suggested that the cullet be given greater consideration in the glass-melting process. It is noted that it is not uncommon today to see furnaces operating with more than 50% cullet levels.<>
