Abstract
The Audio Compact Cassette Tape (CC) and the Mini Disk (MD) mere investigated by lifecycle inventory analysis (LCIA). The energy consumption is approximately 6.2 MJ per piece of CC produced and 5.9 MJ per piece of MD produced. In CC, 73% of the energy consumption is from the production of materials. On the other hand, in MD, only 33% of energy consumed derives from production of materials. Also potential recyclability was estimated for both recording media. The results suggest MD has a higher potential for material recycling
