Abstract :
Adhesive joining was tested as a possible alternative to lead free soldering in photovoltaic modules production for assembly of tabbing ribbons. The ribbons have mostly lead free solder surface finish formed by HAL technology. One-component and two-component epoxy resin based adhesives filled with silver flakes were used for experiments. Adhesive joints were formed by assembly of jumpers on pads with HAL and gold surface finishes. The joints were aged at 85 °C / 85 % RH for 400 hours. Joints resistance and nonlinearity of I/V characteristic were measured. It was found that instability of adhesive joints parameters prevents the use of this type of adhesives in this application.
